About Us
National Charity League was founded in 1947 in Los Angeles, California. The mothers are referred to as Patronesses and the daughters are called Ticktockers. The mothers and daughters work together, either together or within their age group, in philanthropic, cultural, and educational activities.
National Charity League, Inc. is comprised of 140 Chapters in 15 states nationwide. Our organization is the only Mother/Daughter volunteer force of its kind serving local communities together. Further information on the history, purpose, structure of National Charity League, Inc may be found at http://www.nationalcharityleague.org.
The Burbank Chapter of National Charity League, Inc. was organized in 1959 and chartered in 1960. Currently, the Burbank chapter has over 90 Ticktockers in six grade levels. In our small chapter, mothers and daughters have given over 10,000 hours of community service annually to 27 different philanthropies located in Burbank and Los Angeles County. To keep our chapter running strong, they have also completed over 2,000 chapter service hours.
In addition to specific philanthropy hours, our Mother/Daughter organization teaches etiquette and social graces. We put on formal teas, fashion shows, and attend cultural events to help our daughters learn how to present themselves and feel confident.
Our Ticktockers are formally honored each year at an Awards Luncheon for their hours of service to our philanthropies and our chapter. Each Ticktocker who has achieved their Grade Level requirement will receive a Service Award. They will also receive the Mission Bell award for 50 hours in one philanthropy, the Yellow Rosebud for 50 hours in combined philanthropies, the Heart of Gold for 75 hours in one philanthropy, the Yellow Rose for 75 hours in combined philanthropies, the Yellow Rose Bouquet for 100 hours in one philanthropy, and the Hourglass Award for 100 hours in combined philanthropies.
Just prior to graduation from high school, our chapter honors our Senior Ticktockers by presenting them at a formal gathering of family and friends. While this event is not a debutante ball, it is a beautiful event for Ticktockers, their family and friends to celebrate the accomplishments of their teen years and also their plans and goals for their future.
Our chapter also raises funds to donate to our philanthropies. Our major fundraising event is our Bal de Noel usually held on the first weekend of December. It is a festive event; providing an opportunity for Patroness members to join together to begin the Holiday season.
The NCL experience grooms young ladies to be responsible, productive citizens who have and will contribute to society in a positive way. For information regarding membership in our chapter, please Contact Us.
